Grade center categories can be created when you create a column or you can edit an existing column to categorize the assignment in your course.
If assignments are created using the Assessment tools for SafeAssignments, Tests, etc. the category will be assigned by Bb. The example below will show hoe to modify an existing column to categorize the assignment type.
First, go to the "Full Grade Center," by clicking the arrows next to the menu entry in the Course Management menu:
Select the drop down menu from the column header that you want to modify and click on "Edit Column Information."
Scroll down to the "Category" are of the options screen and select the category you would like to use. Options include: No category, Assignment, Survey, Test, Discussion, Blog, Journal, Self and Peer, and SafeAssignment.
If you want to create a custom category, you can use the "Manage" menu from the full Grade Center and select Categories. The next screen will allow you to create categories for your course.
